Deep Ecologists Might Get Their Human Depopulation: Possible Swine Flu Pandemic

The Deep Ecology Movement wants to reduce the human population to 500 million. The genocidal implications of this idea are obvious--although DEs usually say they would like to see it done via voluntary birth control (fat chance), or perhaps a pandemic will do the trick. This is not only a rejection of human exceptionalism, but it is to embrace explicit anti-humanism.

Enter a possible swine flu pandemic. From the story:

A new swine flu strain that has killed as many as 68 people and sickened more than 1,000 across Mexico has "pandemic potential," the World Health Organization chief said Saturday, and it may be too late to contain the sudden outbreak.

The disease has already reached Texas and California, and with 24 new suspected cases reported Saturday in Mexico City alone, schools were closed and all public events suspended in the capital until further notice - including more than 500 concerts and other gatherings in the metropolis of 20 million.

A hot line fielded 2,366 calls in its first hours from frightened city residents who suspected they might have the disease. Soldiers and health workers handed out masks at subway stops, and hospitals dealt with crowds of people seeking help.

The World Health Organization's director-general, Margaret Chan, said the outbreak of the never-before-seen virus is a very serious situation and has "pandemic potential." But she said it is still too early to tell if it would become a pandemic.
Of course one pandemic isn't likely to do the trick. But maybe it will just be the first wave: The DEs can always hope.

My mother recalls an outbreak in the 1970s and a huge public scare. I wonder how this strain will measure up to that one.

Hopefully it will peter out. One of the few sectors I still trust and believe to be competent are the CDC types.

Amazing what 24 hours means in an instance like this.. Was only sometime yesterday I was (basically casually) reflecting back on an activity I participated in with the CDC.. On precisely this.. Pandemic flu..

There were about a hundred of us who showed up that afternoon (pdf file) to give insight from all walks of Life.. The pieces that come back to Mind still, we do not want to go where we talked about that very long but productive, fulfilling afternoon a couple of years ago..

Was telling a friend earlier about just what could happen if this got serious.. Doggone if hours later I didn't hear that this is where Mexico City was in reality heading..

Personally I'm exhausted from the Mind [buzz] of working through all the Twilight Zone feeling moments our World is generating the last few weeks.. Kind of like dissociating on steroids..

This flu thing, sure wish I didn't know how far we would need to go to protect Life if a far-reaching outbreak became a reality..

And I guarantee those of us at that meeting that day don't know the half of what could be, nay, is in the plan...

Sigh.

Now I'm worried about my folks-- they live in an area that's a known place for a high number of Mexican illegal aliens-- one of the nearby "cities" has roughly 80% of the population not existing, legally speaking.

A lot of these folks arrive less than a day after leaving Mexico, and this time of year is really big for folks to come back-- just getting warm enough that you can even camp out without worry about frostbite.

The last time I chatted with my folks, they mentioned that a huge number of folks we know have an ugly cough and mild flu symptoms.

Likelihood of anyone we know being infected-- very low. But terrifying, either way.

Hopefully, the high number of deaths seen in Mexico reflects the relative level of health care, rather than how inherently dangerous the disease is....
