Mainstream Bioethicists Bit Off More Than They Can Chew Attacking Ramesh Ponurru
The mainstream bioethicists are mightily ticked because National Review's Ramesh Ponurru (and others) resist their perceived wisdom on ESCR funding and ethics. But in attacking Ponurru, they bit off more than they can chew. In his usual methodical manner, the NR writer demonstrates that he isn't the one spouting dubious facts.

He came to a meeting at my Young Republican club in NYC and even some of the most socially conservative members were turned off by him. He may make some good points at times but at that meeting, he spouted some pretty extremist views that he supported with skewed opinion polls - as my high school economics teacher used to say - figures don't lie, but liers figure.
Ponnuru "spouted extremist views"?? Sounds like my kinda guy. :-) :-)
You made some ridiculous claims about the country moving towards outlawing abortion. I don't need evidence, I have common sense and popular opinion on my side. I also have the satisfaction of knowing that Bush's restriction of embryonic stem cell research fund has been a boon to abortion rights and can laugh at the fact that now many more embryos are being destroyed than ever would have been if the Christian right had just shut up for once.
It's not a gross distortion of what you said - it is exactly what you said. I remember quite clearly that you gave some poll numbers that you claimed showed the country was moving towards having a majority opposed to abortion. I think South Dakota is all the evidence that I need there.
I'm not saying people that disagree with me should shut up, I just feel that the Christian right needs to release its vice grip on the party and stop black balling socially moderate candidates so that we're not left with just the south in 2008.
Mr. Ponnuru (assuming this is really you),
I have just completed THE PARTY OF DEATH (likely being the only person in the bookstore to buy it and THE NEW VEGAN COOKBOOK in the same order) and loved it. The citations are thorough and have many important hidden points. As I am honored to be a guest on Mr. Smith's blog, I am equally so to share it with you.
Ms. Saunders, I respectfully ask if you've seen RP's analysis of polling numbers with respect to these life issues.
