Animal Liberation "Helter Skelter"

Animal liberation radicals, calling themselves WAR (Win Animal Rights), have declared "war" against Wall Street because the New York Stock Exchange listed Huntingdon Life Sciences on the Big Board. Radical liberationists have vowed to put HLS out of business because it conducts animal testing, and they The term "helter skelter" is an ominous turn. While it was in one of the Beatles more extreme songs, it was also embraced by Charles Manson as the term for the race war he wanted to start. It reeks of anarchy, violence, and chaos.

So, let the "tertiary targeting" begin. But hey, it's for "the animals," right?

That's sick.

Fortunately, that point of view represents an extreme, minority opinion within the greater animal-environmental movement. Kind of like abortion clinic bombers.

The analogy is apt. Alas, there are far more animal liberation fanatics. And with the notable and laudible exception of Gary Francione, most leaders of the movement either refuse to condemn or generally remain mute.

By the word, "alas," I obvioulsly did not mean that I wish there were more abortion clinic bombers. I want neither.

"most leaders of the movement"

hmmm...perhaps. I suspect that I probably know a lot more people in the environmental/ animal rights movement than you do, and I don't know anyone that favors the violence. Oh contraire, it might not make the papers, but they definitely condemn it.

But Royale, other than Francione, they don't come out strongly and condemn it in a public and open manner. They are either silent publicly or refuse to condemn, e.g. PETA.

I can't say anything about PETA as I'm not a member, nor read any other of their publications. But yes, they should.

But I'll my eyes open for stuff from the Sierra Club and NRDC.

If they comment, I will post, although I don't think of the Sierra Club as involved particularly in animal rights.

Y'know what's funny? Here in Texas, one of the most vocal grass-roots groups that I'm familiar with working towards humane treatment of animals is a hunting club. Mistreated animals equal sickly herds and a thrown-off ecosystem. The group is also environmentally concerned and into reclaiming land for forest space.

And we're considered inhumane 'cause we eat the animals we kill. Go fig.
