Secondhand Smoke: Your 24/7 Seminar on Bioethics and the Importance of Being Human
This Blog considers assisted suicide/euthanasia, bioethics, human cloning, biotechnology, radical environmentalism, and the dangers of animal rights/liberation. My views expressed here, as in my books and other writings, reflect my understanding that the philosophy of human exceptionalism is the bedrock of universal human rights. Or, to put it another way: human life matters. (The opinions expressed here are my own and not necessarily those of any organization with which I am affiliated.)

If I remember correctly, de Grey does not believe that calorie restriction diets work well.
He likes them fine, but he doesn't think they work well enough or will extend life long enough to qualify as the destroyer of aging for which he seeks. Here is a quote: "For the avoidance of doubt: though I think that CR will probably give humans only 2-3 years of extra lifespan at most, I certainly don't disapprove of it -- the health benefits are clear, as shown in the Holloszy and Fontana work, and even 2-3 years may make a big difference to quite a lot of people. So I approve of CR"
Of course, none of this has been demonstrated in humans.
Sorry i like real food to much to even attempt this gustatory torture. 2 or 3 more years in an already advanced physically declined state is not something I would enjoy. There are standards to living which are unique to each individual.
The whole planet is so obsessed with food these days... man.
Probably because you can't live without it. Unless your one of those cadaverous looking models Wesley posted a few weeks ago.

That's just it. We *can't* live without it. That's why it blows my mind that people are so stuck on food. Blah.
