Monkeys Can't Sue--Yet

The attempt by animal rights activists to grant animals the right to sue in their own names has been rejected in Texas. From the story:

A Texas appeals court has affirmed a lower court decision that nine chimpanzees and monkeys that were brought to the Primarily Primates sanctuary in 2006 don't have a legal right to sue. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals had sought to gain legal standing for the primates transferred from Ohio State University to the sanctuary after they were retired. PETA alleged that the sanctuary conditions were substandard and that it would be best for the seven chimps and two monkeys to be moved to another sanctuary.
That's good but this issue is not going to go away any time soon. Oh, and for those of you who think it will never happen? A Brazilian judge awarded a writ of habeas corpus to a chimp.

Brazil has issues if it's giving any kind of legal anything to a monkey. Animals need to be respected, but not at the cost of making them into mini-humans.

Funny story - my best friend and I caputred a kitten that had been born and lived on the street in my neighborhood because their owners didn't complete the descent into humanity from monkeys. Anyway, this cat had lived with her mother from birth until just before she was weaned, dodging big dogs, cars, the animal control folks, all that, and we caught this little spitfire so that we could give it a safe home. After living with my best friend for two months, she *refuses* to go outside. She wants nothing to do with the great outdoors, animal freedom, or anything else. She's a pampered house baby, loved and adored, fed good food daily, with no big animals to chase her, and with a foster-mama who sits and gives her belly rubs for hours on end. According to PETA, we did a horrible thing by capturing this baby and giving her a loving home.

I think the only thing PETA wants is anarchy, and this is just the easiest way to get at it.
