Animal Liberation Front: The True "Sadists"
The ALF has vandalized a researcher's car in Oregon and boast about it. From the story:
Animal-rights saboteurs have claimed responsibility for vandalizing the property of a second Portland-area scientist who uses monkeys in his research. In a message Friday, the Animal Liberation Front acknowledged creeping onto the Portland Heights property of Dr. Miles Novy early Thursday and damaging two of his vehicles with graffiti and paint stripper.
"Novy's reproductive research on primates has resulted in this senseless torture of one of natures most magnificent creatures," ALF's saboteurs wrote in a message released by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office. "This blatant disregard for the earth, animals and its resources shall not go unseen by the ever-watching eyes of the ALF."...
The scientist awoke Thursday to find the words "sadist" and "ALF" spray painted in red on his Audi and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Paint stripper streaked the vehicles white. "It's time to fight back," the ALF wrote in its claim of responsibility. "The only reason why people like Miles Novy sleep at night is because we let them."
ALF members are the true sadists. They impede research and thus make it more difficult to alleviate human suffering. (See my article on the Silver Springs Monkey case in which a PETA activist almost prevented a tremendous rehab technique for stroke disability from being developed.)
ALF terrorists aren't liberators. They just love being destructive and scaring people. It doesn't rise to civil disobedience since they hide who they are. Pathetic, cowardly, and anti-human.

It never ceases to amaze me that ELF and ALF take themselves seriously when my friends and I have debates about whether ELF operatives go by the code names, "Legolas," or by "Herbie," and if any ALF operative ever had the code name "Gordon Schumway."
Unfortunatley the bastions take them selves so seriously they'd like to blow people up to prove just how big and bad they are. It's disgusting.
Actually that cartoon makes no sense and doesn't even relate to the article. To be fair, read the ALF guidelines, ALF never assault human beings. Vivisection is scientific fraud.
You don't have to assault or kill human beings to be a terrorist.

First of all-
I am a vegetarian; I agree with the breaking into of labs to release animals that are being treated cruelly, as i believe that the cost to rebuild a building higher price than that of the suffering and death of animals.
I, however, do not agree with the ALF's attitude that people who experiment on animals are 'scum' or 'subhuman'- I feel in turn that this is not a fair reaction as they have been educated in this way and have been taught that experimenting on animals is the 'only way' to progress medically.
Violence and cruelty should never be tolerated amongst animal rights activists, as that in my in my opinion is regressive.
As for the ALF, I do not think they are destructive for the sake of it, I think that the destruction of these labs is to put a powerful message across to the government & public and maybe where a legal solution is not agreeable.
Shame on anyone who calls themselves an animal liberationist when all they do is create a negative image by using violence and physical abuse to try and get a message through.
ALF is NOT a terrorist organization. The definition of Terrorism is the use of violence & intimidation in pursuit of political aims. While ALF uses intimidation the ALF has not used violence. If you were to call the ALF terrorists than I'd insist that you be so consistent as to call the troops in Iraq, those who fought in the revolutionary wars and those treating the monkey terrorists. Violence has been used for good causes before and according to this definition those people are terrorists. How is this different? Personally I almost find it an insult to those who died on 9-11 to claim that the ALF is as harmful as those who killed those people.
Seb: Arson is violence. Bombing is violence. Terrorism is also threatening violence to gain a political objective, which has been done repeatedly. Scaring the hell out of family members is terrorism by any definition.
Your comparison with the revolutionary war soldiers is odious, and any comparison with how we treat animals and 911 or violence against people is foul.
No one has been murdered yet. But based on the violent language coming out of ALF and its supporters, I worry that it is only a matter of time.

The idea that humans use animals as test dummies is inhumane and wrong. No matter how you look at it. Yes, it is good that we are finding ways to help cure diseases. Regardless of your consumption of meat or your outlook on animals compared to humans, we are all living things. We all feel pain, we all have emotions. I don't see how you who are opposed to ALF can't see this. We as a race, the human race, see it as since we are at the top of the food chain, we have the right to kill, eat, torture and enslave other living beings. And when someone does something about it, you call them terrorists? I guess I just don't understand the incompitance. You are arguing a man's vehicles over thousands upon millions of lives mercilessly stipped away and stepped on. To call ALF terrorists is blatantly distorting reality. ALF doesn't advocate violence, so where is the terrorism? They literally gave freedom, health and hapiness to something that was not aloud to choose for itself. I really hope you are not burried to deep in ignorance to this situation to understand and feel what I am saying.

If human animals deserve them because can suffer and joy, why animals cannot?
Simple: there is no reason.
Sensient animals can suffer and joy, so they have the same interests and deserve the same rights.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
And, based on the same interests, defending the same basic rights, we don't give a damn for property.
Property doesn't matter as much as life, integrity and freedom.

The animal liberation front is an organization who opposes animal violence. Most of those people abhor violence as a whole. One of the main guidelines of the alf is to never harm any living being, including human animals. The person who posted that picture is doesn't know right from left, it is completely ludicrous.
As for the scientist's truck, they were just making a statement of the right to freedom of speech. I say they should've burnt the truck down!
Actually, to be a terrorist some must HURT CIVILIZANS as a way to bargain with the state or the responsible authority. What ALF does is damage to property, wich is very different from hurting anyone, unless you care more about a car than a living being.
The cartoon is just a stupid ideological propaganda, ALF activist never touched anyone, and would not do that. First of all, their phjilosophy is based on nonviolence. Also, they would be considered real terrorists if they hurt anyobody. But it will never happen, your idea is just an ideological misinformation. Also, someone who confine, hurt and torture another thinking being should not be considered a hero.
Ah, your ideas about scientific development are a little bit wrong. You should uderstand about epistmeology if you want to talk about scientific development. Please, read Thomas Kuhn, Paul Feyerabend, Carl Sagan and Gary Francione.
I agree with those who have noted that ALF does not support violence against animals or human beings. Inanimate objects are being harmed only to attempt to stop the torture of beings that can feel the pain being inflicted on them. I like this quote from Mark Twain, who would most likely be an ALF supporter if he were alive today: "I am not interested to know whether vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. ... The pain which it inflicts upon unconsenting animals is the basis of my enmity toward it, and it is to me sufficient justification of the enmity without looking further." It seems asinine to try to defend a cruel action by stating it might possibly teach us something. It also seems asinine to attack the ALF by saying they are terrorists when their mission is nonviolence. We're not talking about legal vs. illegal here, we're talking about wrong vs. right.
