Gary Francione Nails PETA and Peter Singer

Gary Francione is an animal rights absolutist who believes that there should be no domesticated animals and no human use of animals for any purpose. I disagree, obviously. But as I have written, he walks the talk: He seeks to lead by example by promoting a 100% vegan lifestyle and he forcefully eschews all violence. He is therefore a radical leader who is indeed worthy of respect.

In this blog entry, Francione takes out after Peter Singer (for promoting infanticide and sex with animals) and PETA (for killing animals), among other purported wrongs. Just follow his links. It makes for interesting reading.

Wow... I think I actually like this guy.

I could never live this lifestyle, but he is terribly sincere, and he's a very compassionate person. I don't agree with his philosophy, but it's very hard for me not to admire someone with this much passion who actually lives his beliefs.

Forget it - I admire him. I can't follow his path, but I admire him and I am quite happy that he is there to express his views. It's nice to have someone who is trying to live a moral life around.

I met Gary when we debated in Canada. That was my impression. We got along fine, without compromising our respective principles and opinions.
