Genetically Altered Adult Cells Attack Cancer

This could be very exciting if it truly pans out: Scientists have used patients' own white blood cells, genetically engineered, to apparently place melanoma into remission. Scientists think the procedure might also be effective on other types of cancer. There is great hope here, and it is perfectly ethical. Here's hoping!

Is this technically an adult stem cell success? It looks like it. But I'm not sure. The AP story running in the Reno Gazette Journal does not call it an adult stem cell success.

Credit where credit is due - yes, you have convinced me that ASC is underdeveloped and probably would be more effective than ESC (outside the SCNT context anyway.

That said, I strongly disagree that ESC of leftover embryos from IVF is unethical. If it's ethical to harvest the dead for science and medicine, then it's ethical - if not morally mandated - to harvest the leftover ESCs.

Royale: Reasonable people can disagree about that. Thank you for your contributions to Secondhand Smoke.
