Animal Liberationists Harass Official for Euthanizing Strays but Leave Dog-Killer PETA Alone

This story in the Los Angeles Times illustrates vividly how wacky and mean the animal liberation movement has become:

"In recent weeks, one neighborhood in the Larchmont Village section of Los Angeles has been under siege: graffiti scrawlings, stink bombs, menacing midnight phone calls and, in July, a bomb scare that forced an evacuation. Police and political leaders say it's a part of an escalation by animal rights activists in Los Angeles...The protesters' target is David Diliberto, a high-ranking official in the Los Angeles Animal Services Department, whom activists blame for failing to stop the city from euthanizing thousands of stray dogs it picks up each year." (My emphasis.)

EXCUSE ME? As I have blogged and written, PETA routinely euthanizes stray dogs! If these thugs were to be consistent, they would be harassing Ingrid Newkirk. (I don't want them to do this, of course. They shouldn't harass anybody.)

But there is no chance that they will issue so much as a peep of protest over PETA killing more than 10,000 dogs in recent years. For many liberationists, the animals are the pretext. The real philosophical agenda is anti-human, and in this regard, they recognize Ingrid Newkirk as one of their own.

I got the story of the threats and intimidating tactics from the LA Times, as the link demonstrates. As to PETA killing dogs and cats, Ingrid Newkirk admits and defends it. Check out the PETA WEB site. The point is that PETA and the LA County approach both involve euthanizing stray dogs and cats, which is appropriate in some cases, but you will never see the liberationists protesting PETA's euthanasia policy. Thanks for your comment.

It would seem that ccepdx is being used by the likes of PETA and needs to wise up when it comes to the hypocrisy of these people.

I know enough about Peter Singer to be wary of any group with which he is associated. You mention Ms Newkirk, but I have not heard a lot about her activity. On the other hand I am well aware of the lack of morality that is advocated by Peter Singer (I am talking about more than sexual morality, because I believe that ethics are tied up with how we view the world in a moral sense).

From what I have been reading PETA has gone too far and it is time to stop giving them so much publicity. The problem as I see it is that the MSM see PETA and its offshoots as a good story. If it sells newspapers then they will print.

It would seem that ccepdx cannot make up his or her mind about whether one side is better than the other.

I have not even heard of the National Animal Interest Alliance.

I am not against the use of animals for experimentation unless the form of experimentation is extremely cruel and unusual.

The problem with people who get hung up with the term "vivisection" is that they like to go for the emotive imagery.

One can see how the propaganda of one side builds up an image that causes unnecessary confrontation. It really irks me when I see actresses and others carrying on about the use of animal skins to make coats. This method has been known for centuries and we continue to have enough animals.

Activist organizations such as PETA and Animal Liberation do not distinguish when they go on their rampages, as far as the use of wild and farmed animals is concerned.

Personally, I believe that there are times when we need to use proper animal culling methods to keep down the population of certain animals so that they do not become pests to the environment.

I am used to seeing possums running around the suburban areas of Sydney. These animals, if they are allowed to grow in number can be pests and yes they do cause a lot of damage as well as blackouts. I am also used to seeing kookaburras, as well as cockatoos and galahs. Then there are the fierce mynah birds, as well as the butcher birds. When the birds congregate in flocks they can become a pest. We need to get rid of the mynah and butcher birds because they do more harm than good.

Since I know nothing about the activities of Adrian Morrison I can assume that you are maligning this person because you have chosen to remain anonymous whilst you do the attacking. As for your own comments to me, well you can stuff your ad hominem in your pipe and smoke it.
