Obama Hypocrisy on Global Warming: Do as I Say, Not as I Do
Our latest episode of hypocrisy by those who are the most high strung over the predicted collapse of civilization due to "climate change," (i.e., Al Gore taking limos and private jets), is our intrepid President Obama. He who is so concerned about carbon footprints and promoting "slow food" (locally produced) actually had a chef fly about 850 miles round trip just to make pizza. From the story: Barack Obama liked a restaurant's pizzas so much he has flown the chef 850 miles round trip to make some at the White House. The US President got a taste for Chris Sommers' pizza while campaigning in St Louis, Missouri, last year. After Mr Obama's election win, Chris offered to deliver frozen pizzas to the White House but was told he couldn't because of security concerns.
So he took 20lb of dough and three gallons of sauce to Washington. Chris was due to cook lunch at the White House yesterday, reported People.com. He said: "It’s surreal. It's a huge honour."
Yes, this is a small matter. But with these guys it always seems to be, "Do as we say, not as we do."

I think it is important to clarify a few things with this post. There is some information that is missing here and may lead people to the wrong assumptions and conclusions.
Individuals familiar with Mr. Sommers' and his restaurant may know what I am talking about. (I highly recommend his pizzas, too).
Sommers' was already planning on going to Washington, DC for business. He flew coach and paid for it himself (technically, his business - Pi restaurant paid for it). He is also going with his business partner as this is a business trip - a friend was able to get him into the White House in addition to the DC trip (I have forgotten the name of said friend that my source told me). Sommers will be making pizza for an extended guest list (I've heard up to 150 people). Those familiar with Sommers and his restaurant (Pi), know that he is an Obama supporter, presumably being allowed to make a pizza feast for the white house is some sort of returned favor and business venture on Sommers' part.
I think it is important the readers consider this information and then ask themselves the question, "is this really hypocritical from an environmental standpoint? Or is this just reasonable, responsible business practice from an innovative, successful entrepreneur?"
I fear people assume Obama is flying Sommers (on AF One) in, just to make a pizza for him personally at lunch; this is not accurate.
The White House may or may not post a memo regarding this visit and 'lunch'. I encourage readers to check out www.whitehouse.gov to see, or write to the white house for a clarification.
Well, the hypocrite wasn't the chef, it was Obama--who has shown quite a bit of proclivity to not do as he preaches during his time in office. However, if the scenario you laid out is true, it admittedly would take some of the sting out of it. Moreover, I never meant to imply this was on the taxpayers' dime.
However, think of the extra carbon that dough caused the plane to produce. And what if he took his own pots and pans? Didn't these people consider the polar bears?
I actually agree, a little, haha. I did think the extra weight of dough, sauce, pans, etc would cause an increase in fuel consumption - unless Sommers offset it by packing ultra light (maybe wearing spandex all visit, who knows). I believe he did take some of his own pans, seriously.
The other thing, though, is if he brought all the ingredients from his restaurant, then they are usually organic/local, etc. But there is still the issue of extra fuel consumption. This pizza fest also may help to raise awareness that there are local restaurants all over America trying to make a difference, and consumers who can afford it may look for them.
As for the polar bears, in the long term they are making a comeback. I think 50 years ago there was something like 5x fewer. What's really weird, though, is when the ranges of polar bears and grizzlies overlap and they sometimes mate - to create a hybrid. Who knows, maybe in a thousand years there will hardly be any grizzlies or polar bears - only hybrids.

Anyways, it's good to see citizens keeping on eye on the president.
Isn't it true that while President Obama has been urging households to keep their thermostats below a certain temperature, he's been keeping it cranked up pretty high?
Par for the course. Al Gore has a huge house, flies by chartered jet, etc. Teddy Kennedy doesn't want wind power if it will spoil his view.
It's always somebody else who has to sacrifice. Somebody poorer. These people draw a circle just big enough to include themselves, and everyone else can go hang.
Oh, stop it already Wesley. You're beginning to sound like just another frustrated Republican.
Do as I say, not as I do. *eye roll*
Kinda like that fellow who keeps on about how folks with mental issues should be killed, but took good care of his demented mother? (That's some hypocrisy I can support....)
Dana-
Polar Bears are supposed to be a sub-species/ evolutionary offshoot of grizzlies. Part of why they're far from beloved by their neighbors. ^.~
HW-no different than when you act like a frustrated euthanasia advocate when you belly ache about people who oppose euthanasia are interfering with other people's so called right to off themeselves.
Hey! What's wrong with being a frustrated Republican? The Democrats got to be frustrated with Bush, that's a total double standard. Anyway, I don't dislike Obama for party reasons, but for a plethora of other reasons, like when he reversed the Bush ESCR policy, which, according to this blog, took away govt. funding from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Research. Now, whether or not your for or against ESCR, you have to admit that it's less controversial, and it's not like President Obama needs more controversy. Heck, his middle name might as well be "Controversy" instead of "Hussein."
Writer, one need not be a "frustrated Republican" to see the glaring hypocrisies of the Obama administration.
Can remember many a time craving a My Pi pizza from North Miami but at least had the presence of Mind to rationalize how ludicrous it would be to pursue getting one..
On a similar note of ludicrousness, how 'bout that there Washington Post, ay..? Don't hear squat from their breaking news alert department for a notable amount of time then, bingo!, arrives one today..
About a [bleeped] dog. Sure gots our priorities straight there in D.C., don't we..? :raises brow:
I'm a Conservative and I never feel frustrated with anything having to do with my being a Conservative. Ditto for when I was a Republican, which in spirit I still am; I just don't like the county organization we've got here, but I didn't feel frustrated by them; I just changed parties to the same thing only better, that runs the same candidates. I don't find Obama or his having been elected frustrating; he just has to be impeached. Why waste time feeling frustrated; there is always something that can be done. Like impeachment. Disgusted is more like it, anyway.
I don't know about the pizza, but I'm disgusted about the dog. First of all, there are other nonallergenic breeds, not just the two they narrowed it down to. There was plenty of time to find a shelter dog, or one from a rescue group, of any breed they wanted, anyway. Even a Portuguese Water Dog. Since Christmas the shelters have been full of puppies given as gifts that ended up in shelters by now; this is the President of the United States, somebody at some shelter would have come up with one if there had been an honest search effort. They wanted a dog from a breeder, this is just one more thing that turned out to be a lie, they wanted the dog from Kennedy, end of story. Michelle wears J.Crew, is basking in the unfathomable comparison to Jackie, and isn't going to turn down the chance for further association with Hyannis Port. Plus they didn't want to insult Teddy, what with his health and all and what with his position in the Senate, or his clan that helped put them in the White House, deja vu of Chicago 1960 all over again. They wanted a hypoallergenic medium-sized dog, they could have found a million sweet Wheatens or Schnauzers et al. in a shelter in five minutes. On top of which they reveal themselves to be true liberals by making a monetary donation rather than saving an animal's life from the needle or a compression chamber, money counts to liberals more than anything, after all, including a life. Of course it's an adorable dog. Ones in shelters no less, though, but nothing says "we've arrived" like a Portuguese Water Dog from A Breeder, courtesy of Teddy.
As for the pizza, I don't care how good it is, if someone who supported Obama made it and I know they made it, I won't eat it. It's not something one gets to find out in most circumstances, of course, nor am I going to want to know if I don't have to these next four years; one does have to eat after all.
AND BY THE WAY, THEY COULD HAVE ADOPTED A SHELTER DOG AND MADE A DONATION TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY TOO; there goes the argument that the donation "can save more lives." Lots of people who adopt shelter animals also make donations. Lord knows he's getting a decent salary for destroying the country, and he could afford the pizza extravaganza, after all.
Ianthe: For once on animal issues we agree. It would have been a good promotion of animal welfare to adopt a shelter dog rather than obtain a chi chi breed.
AND SOMEONE TELL MICHELLE TO KEEP HER HANDS OFF THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND!! Someone who would actually adopt a shelter dog would be more apt to know better than to have done that... As for him, I just wouldn't know where to start... They can't even tell the truth about a dog, for heaven's sake. Had no business saying they were going to get a shelter dog if they weren't going to. Already elected, not going to lose any votes...still can't tell the truth or stick to his story. It's bad enough the country is in his hands and has to put up with him, with all our lives at stake; now a dog does too. Kennedys, Chicago.... No, not frustrated, disgusted.
Wesley: That's right. But he doesn't care about animal welfare, animal rights (such as the right of a shelter dog to be rescued, and by someone who SAID he was going to do it...and the right of a shelter dog being equal to the right of a chi chi dog from a breeder, might call that canine exceptionalism?) or, as pro-lifers have seen, and as we'll see with his deadly utilitarian, futile-care health care fiasco, the issues SHS is concerned about. There is a connection between his attitude to other animals and other humans, as their is between the rights of those two groups.
Is it ethical for them to accept a gift from a member of the Senate? Couldn't their fondness for the dog remind them of Teddy and his agenda and influence the President? Has anyone raised this issue? If they have I haven't heard about it. Didn't the Kennedys help them get elected? Then why the further gift? And why did they accept it? Off to a fine start -- can't even save a dog's life from a shelter, can't even choose his own pet, lets someone else do it for him, and he's going to protect America and make big decisions.
It's fascinating how those who complain about media bias exhibit the same bias in their articles and blog posts.
Yeah, let's impeach Obama for getting a Portie instead of a shelter dog, allowing his wife to touch the Queen, and having St. Louis pizza! WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!!1
Yargh.
