I Learn About The "Georgia Guidestones"
I gave a speech on Sunday hitting on the threats to human exceptionalism. I brought up my concern about deep ecology's call to reduce humankind to under 1 billion, as well as Spain passing the Great Ape Project, Switzerland's "plant dignity," and Ecuador's granting rights to Nature.
During the Q and A, an audience member asked me what I thought of the Georgia Guide Stones. I had never heard of them, but promised to look it up. Here is what I found. From Wikipedia, I learned that that huge granite monoliths were erected by unknown persons in 1979, written in different languages. The Stones' message pushes one world government, and may involve occultism, issues with which we don't concern ourselves here. Some of it is feel good pabulum. But some of the directives do appear to chillingly call for eugenics and the imposition of a deep ecology that would require mass human extermination--issues with which we are very much involved here at SHS. Here is the Stone's message:
MAINTAIN HUMANITY UNDER 500,000,000 IN PERPETUAL BALANCE WITH NATUREHmmm. This could be the inspiration for the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.
GUIDE REPRODUCTION WISELY--IMPROVING FITNESS AND DIVERSITY
UNITE HUMANITY WITH A LIVING NEW LANGUAGE
RULE PASSION--FAITH--TRADITION AND ALL THINGS WITH TEMPERED REASON
PROTECT PEOPLE AND NATIONS WITH FAIR LAWS AND JUST COURTS
LET ALL NATIONS RULE INTERNALLY RESOLVING EXTERNAL DISPUTES IN A WORLD COURT
AVOID PETTY LAWS AND USELESS OFFICIALS
BALANCE PERSONAL RIGHTS WITH SOCIAL DUTIES.
PRIZE TRUTH--BEAUTY--LOVE —SEEKING HARMONY WITH THE INFINITE
BE NOT A CANCER ON THE EARTH--LEAVE ROOM FOR NATURE--LEAVE ROOM FOR NATURE
Labels: Georgia Guidestones. Deep Ecology. Human Exceptionalism.

Some good, some bad, some ugly in there. The improve health and diversity bit is straight forward eugenics, since only by preventing certain pregnancies and creating others anybody can have that kind of genetic control over the population.
On the other hand, I do like the idea of everybody going to court instead of bombing the crap out of each other. Not that it would ever happen that way. Most of the time wars are fought over land. Someone wants really good land so he or she can make more money, and people aren't inclined to share. Seriously, that's what the business of the Middle East is about - they want the land Israel has to go back to Palestine. Israle has it because originally that land belonged to England and the Jewish bankers the British begged to help finance WWI and WWII told them that they wouldn't help unless the Brits gave back Israel.
Likewise, Sadam's plan was the takeover of Kuait (spelling?) for its resources, especially oil.
Either people want fertil land or they want some resource on the land, and everybody's going to fight over it unless someone has bigger guns and tells them to back off. Nobody's willing to go to court instead, which is what I'd prefer.
And the number of people doesn't matter as much as the division of food and resources. It's not how many people live on the earth, it's how the earth is divided up to support those people. In a perfect system, everyone, no matter where they lived, would have access to resources. So, those people who live in poor land areas, like certain parts of Africa, would still have plenty of resources coming in from other areas that have an abundence of food and goods.
Pure nonsense, of course, because again, people want to make money. The best way to make money is limit the amount available and up the demand, so that the suppliers get more for their buck.
Like you said, Wesley, feel good ideology, but not at all practical.
