Mary Pilcher Cook Primary Victory in Kansas

One of the most courageous and dedicated legislators I have ever met is Mary Pilcher Cook of Kansas. Mary came to my attention several years ago, when as a freshman in the Kansas House, she asked me out to testify in favor of a proposed cloning ban. (Through a lot of grit and persuasion, she got it through the House, but it never passed the Senate). That was when I first met David Prentice, another reason to look back fondly on that trip because he and I are now good friends.

For standing against the desires of the Stowers Crowd, Mary was targeted politically, and in subsequent years won and lost the House seat. This year, she is running for the state senate, and in spite of being smeared with the usual Stowers-type attack ads about being against cures for opposing human cloning--a word the ads, of course, did not use--she just won the primary. (More evidence that the old "anti-cures" smear is losing its traction.)

Since she is running in what is usually a Republican district, without taking anything for granted, there is cause for optimism that she will soon be in the Kansas Senate. If so, that will be good for the people of Kansas.

Congratulations Mary!

I think people should look the attack ad against her at this link on her site http://www.pilchercook.com/ktrmhit.html. It's at the bottom of the page.

Dark Swan: I don't permit those kind of name shifts to engage in ad hominem. Grow up, or go away.

Also, from now on any of your comments that stray off the topic, such as that one which dealt with a different politician, will be deleted.

Moreover, I am close to blackballing you, because of your inability to keep to proper subjects.

Last warning.

We can get down.

If you want to eliminate tangents then how does bashing the Stowers Institute correlate in congratulating Cook any more than me bringing up Phill Klein's election result along with her's, as they are very politically intertwined considering he was her mentor and helped her win her first term in the statehouse?

But while your on the issue of Stowers, I looked up some of your comments on them to see what you had to say.

So what is this penned by yourself if not an ad hominem attack Wesley?

So, once again William Neaves is proved to be a prevaricator par excellence, also known as a cow manure artist.

Not only that, but in this same post YOU straight out mislead your readership about the Stowers Stem Cell efforts on this post. There was no ESCr at Stowers before A2 passed.

But of course, embryonic stem cell research was being done before the passage of Amendment 2 at Stowers...
Given, that ESCR has been done for years at Stowers.

Hmmm. a little sluething at the Stowers website finds their report to the SOS
http://www.stowers-institute.org/doc/disclosure/2006-hesc_annualreport.doc

You are proving to be the cow manure artist Wesley. At worst your lying to your readership, at the least providing ignorant information that your supposed to be an expert on.

Do you intend this just to be a forum where all the bobbing heads nod in agreement with you?

Please desist. This was about Mary Pilcher Cook, not Phil Kline, Dr. Tiller, or PP. Thanks.

What a great day!

Obama is President Elect. The world views the United States as an example of Democracy and hope again.

Racial equality is here now more than ever. America is ready for a break from the stiff conservatism that has crippled our nation for 8 years.

and to top it off, looks like your rising star has fallen fast in Kansas, Mary Cook was defeated soundly in Kansas... in KANSAS!

It goes to show that even the most conservative bases are starting to realize that one issue candidates are a detriment to our society and their efforts should be extinguished in favor of common sense candidates that reflect the values of all the constituents in the community, not just the uber right wing single minded abortion lackeys.

I'm sorry to hear that DS. But it is really heartwarming that you are such a gracious winner. You're all class.

Yep, looks like I spoke to soon. Unfortunately for the people of Kansas - Cook did get her seat. A minor speed bump. At least most of the country is beyond one issue candidates that seek to divide the electorate for gain of personal and religious beliefs.

But then again it is Kansas, it always takes a while for fresh ideas to sink in there, and they wonder why people around the nation make them the butt of all the evolution jokes. Oh well they will hopefully remove her after watching her first term, Poor Kansas.

Now. On with Barack!

...which, of course, she's not guilty of doing. But by all means, DS, persist in your myth that research ethics has to sprout from fervent religious belief.

Sure It doesn't necessarily 'have' to, it's just that belief system does originate from Christian dogma much more than often doesn't.

Ask 100 prolifers in Kansas why they support life and where they get there moral authority. A scant few will quote HE while the vast majority while whip out there Bibles, sorry if that bothers you.
