More Animal Rights Threats in Santa Cruz

Readers of SHS will recall the home invasion of the Santa Cruz cancer researcher who enraged animal rights fanatics for experimenting on lab rats looking for a cure for breast cancer. There hasn't been much news from there lately, until now. New threats are being made. From the story:

There are some people in Santa Cruz very nervous over a pamphlet that contains a lot of personal information about them. Police are looking for whoever left pamphlets listing the names and addresses of U.C.S.C. researchers at a cafe.

The crudely-constructed pamphlet titled "Murderers and Torturers Alive and Well in Santa Cruz" warns "We know where you live. We know where you work. We will never back down." A customer at a café brought the pamphlet to police. It was the title that caught his attention, but once he opened it, he found what could be considered a hit list...

Each page had the researchers' picture, home address, and telephone number. The booklet's back cover made it clear. Whoever is responsible for compiling this list will not stop until the abuse of animals ends.
This can't be right. Animal rights is a peaceable movement!

An AR might point out that there is no overt threat or call to action. However, like their "peaceful demonstrations" at 1:00 am outside the researchers' homes, the message is clear: We know where you and your family live and we are making this personal.

Clearly they are using fear tactics to attempt to control researchers' behavior, and that makes them terrorists even if no violence ever occurs.

"Stop animal research or something might happen to you" is nothing more than the old organized crime protection racket, and I hope at some point the RICO laws get applied to such activities.

Particularly when ARL types went to a researchers home and knocked her husband down.

RICO probably won't wash because the criminals are not in it for the money. There was a Supreme Court case about that, I think, with regard to Operation Rescue that was sued by Planned Parenthood, or feminists of some sort.

But, the Animal Enterprises Terrorism Act certainly applies. If these thugs are caught, they could--and should--spend years in prison.

Aug 16 1922::: A date to remember.

Elizabeth Evans Hughes,age 13, daughter of US Secretary of State Charles Evans Hughes arrives in Toronto to be treated by Banting for her diabetes. Weighing only 45 lbs and barely able to walk,Elizabeth responds immediately to the insulin treatment and goes on to lead a productive life. She dies in 1981 at age 73.

Above excerpt from the history of diabetes ( http://www.diabetes.ca/section_About/timeline.asp ) pretty much sums up what animal research is to the medical profession and human society. The anti research folk would love to drag us back into the dark ages.
