Humane Society of United States Not so Humane to People

The Humane Society has outed itself as indifferent to human welfare. When the HSUS revealed abuses by a meat packer, leading to a massive meat recall, many applauded. But apparently, the HSUS kept the news of animal abuse and downer cows entering the food chain to themselves for months. From the story:

At a hearing on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, Representative Michael C. Burgess, Republican of Texas, assailed the Humane Society for waiting to inform the federal government. "Why wait until February to release the video?" Mr. Burgess demanded of a Humane Society representative. "Why wait until now to bring this to our attention?"

His criticism echoed a point made last week by Ed Schafer, the secretary of agriculture, who said he was "extremely disappointed"in the Humane Society. He complained that "for four months, theoretically, animals were not being properly treated, and the Humane Society stood by and allowed it to happen."

Humane Society representatives said Tuesday that the criticism was misplaced. They said the primary concern of their organization is animal welfare, not food safety, and as soon as they had the tape they took it to local prosecutors in California.
What? So, to promote their animal rights agenda, they were willing to allow people to be exposed to potentially tainted food! And, it was willing for animals to continue to be abused until they had the images they wanted to discredit meat eating. That says it all, doesn't it?

And don't buy the baloney that they didn't trust going to Agriculture Department to stop the abuse. HSUS's primary goal was to embarrass the beef industry because they raise cattle--which animal rightists consider slaves--and slaughter them for food--which liberationists see as murder. Exposing the abuse of the downer cows was merely the means to that overarching end.

The draconian Los Angeles ordinance, which passed 14-1, forces pet owners to spay and neuter their pets by the age of 4 months, is also along the lines of the crackpot animal rights people to ban the domestication of animals. This ordinance would simply do away with animals altogether when they all die out naturally.

Don't expect Bob Barker to tell you the truth about what the aims of this ban are.

These people are SO dishonest in their tactics, they know their crazy agenda would NEVER fly if it were exposed.

The meat scandal should be out there for everybody to see.

Susan: Right you are. I decided not to comment on the neutering law. But that is the ultimate agenda: NO DOMESTIC ANIMALS OF ANY KIND.

Meanwhile, ALF and others are at war with the mayor of LA over euthanasia at animal shelters. Yet PETA kills animas and you don't see vandalism and threats over their actions.

PETA, HSUS, and the other extreme groups propose such reforms or ordinances in the name of "animal welfare," but in fact they don't care about animals at all.

They want cattle banned, horses banned, dogs and cats banned, all domestic animals banned. And wild animals aren't far behind.

I can't even IMAGINE a world without domestic animals. What kind of crazy thinking even entertains such a thought? No sane individual would give a dime to PETA, HSUS, or any of these other groups if they were properly outed.

Many species need owners.
My two dogs need me to medicate them when they are sick and suffering, make sure they are properly feed and keep them safe and warm. I am a big supporter of animal welfare, but animal rights does more harm to animals than good.

I quote God, "The righteous man has regard for the life of his beast, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."

There is no way in the world anybody is going to tell me whether or not to eat meat and whether or not I can have any pets.

Animal rights people remind of the fundamentalists. Fanatics of any sort are not good for any society.

Susan: They are fundamentalists, including a fervent belief in apocalyptic scenarios.

I would dare to say that animal rights folks like animal cruelty, because they see it as good PR to stop domesticating/eating animals. If there wasn't factory farming and animal testing, they wouldn't have means to incite the indignation of reasonable people who oppose animal cruelty but don't believe that animals should have rights. They'd have to mention their real goal, which is nigh impossible for anyone to sympathize with.

I seem to recall a study showing plants respond in measureable ways when cut or pulled from the ground. In some ways, that could correlate to pain. If so, then is eating of plant life next on the agenda?

If that is the next frontier, then all that'll be left to eat is members of PETA and ALF.....think I'll stick with a good New York steak.

I got chased around my back yard by a rooster once when I was like five years old. That convinced me that animals have no regard for human beings. I also grew up watching my cats eat the chicks and adult chickens that got into our back yard, and watching hawks kill doves, chickens, and mice. I have a lot of respect for predator animals.
They don't mind killing for their food, and they don't respect the "rights" of other animals. I expect humans to work for the welfare of animals because we are stewards of this planet, and because ultimately animals belong to God, but He made them to eat other animals, and to protect themselves, and He saw them as good - I don't see any reason to outlaw the ownership of animals, or to stop eating meat.

Just try to tell Ingrid Newkirk, Peter Singer, and their ilk that. They are totally crazy, yet they have undue influence, especially on animal welfare groups.

I found this excellent site by an advocate for "no kill" shelters and who is critical of the likes of HSUS and PETA, which support killing of shelter animals.

He finds their stand inconsistent if they are supposed to be concerned with animals. In actuality, these organizations' support of animal killing is entirely consistent with their belief animals should not be domesticated.

I wonder how PETA and ALF feel about ants domesticating and farming aphids? Or about the hawks and buzzards that live out in my neck of the woods, that bring down pigeons and squirrles all day long.

Ever seen a hawk kill a woodpecker? It's an awesome sight.

What about people who do animal rehabilitation? One of my favorite authors, Mercedes Lackey (she writes fantasy/sci-fi fiction) is a raptor (bird of prey) rehabber, and as she pointed out, you can't fake a kill. To get these animals back in shape to go out into the wild, they have to learn how to kill other birds and animals. That's a case of people working to make wild animals' lives better. Yet the People With Too Much Time On Their Hands find the time to target her for "cruelty."

Makes no damn sense.

Friend of mine who heard the rooster story asked me if I didn't get some sort of perverse pleasure out of eating chicken (it's my fav food) because of it. Ummmmmm yes, you didn't notice?

One critic I came across in my surfing the net pointed out the seeming inconsistencies of groups like PETA and HSUS. If they really believe animals have the same rights as people, then why do they endorse forced sterilization of cats and dogs?

Of course they don't really care about animals at all. They want to ban domestication of animals and couldn't care less about preserving endangered species through zoos, sanctuaries, and preserves.
