Secondhand Smoke on the Air

I did an interview with a Catholic radio show last Friday that focused pretty hard on assisted suicide, futile care, eugenics, hospice, and bioethics. It was a call-in show and a couple of hospice nurses called offering some interesting comments. If you want to hear me spout hot air and emit particulate matter like I do in writing here, tune in to this rebroadcast.

Wesley, I'm listening to it now. Let me say that I heard you speak at the LA Diocese Religious Education Congress 8-10 years ago and you opened my eyes to a world I was completely unaware of. I've gone back to that conference a few times in the years since and was disappointed to not see your name on the presenter list. Hopefully the reason you're not a regular speaker has more to do with your busy schedule and not their not inviting you back.
Thanks, Ken. Those were the early days. The woman who was in charge of that conference had me speak twice over a few year period. She then retired and I have not been invited back.
I really like the way you spoke with the hospice nurse - that's the weirdest thing, not giving antibiotics to help with urinary tract infections? You're right, that should fall under comfort care. That makes no sense. A dying person has the right to be free from discomfort and infections, too!
