Cloned Monkey Fetal Farming
I have long asserted that conducting ESCR and human cloning research is not intended, nor will it long remain, in the Petri dish. Rather, the real game is implantation and gestation into the late embryo and fetal stages, which would better permit disease studies, research into genetic engineering, organ harvesting, etc.
Primate cloning is the precursor to learning how to do human cloning. Now, a paper (Human Reproduction Vol.22, No.8 pp. 2232*2242, 2007) published in a professional journal (no link), shows scientists indeed want to conduct fetal farming in monkey models:
The availability of reliable, efficient methods for producing viable SCNT embryos in the monkey should support the derivation, characterization and transplantation of autologous, immunocompatible ESCs in efforts to restore form and function to damaged tissues in a preclinical model. However, our goal of producing neurodegenerative disease models in the monkey from gene targeted donor cells will require pregnancy establishment following SCNT embryo transfer into synchronized recipients. When human fetal farming begins--assuming it can be technologically--don't say you weren't warned.

Warned? What do you mean, "warned"? How come all you ever do is announce the coming of human cloning and genetic engineering as a given, and never call for a law against it? Why don't you put some pressure on the candidates for President, for instance, to state their positions on genetic engineering and an egg and sperm natural conception law? Some of them might be for it, or accepting it as inevitable (like you seem to be), while others might be against it. I've been unsuccesful at soliciting a response, but you might fare differently. Please try, and please don't give up. We can stop this from happening, but it is up to us if we do or not.
John, I have repeatedly called for a ban on all human cloning. I have testified in front of legislatures in support of a ban on all human cloning. I wrote a book calling for a ban on all human cloning. I have been on television and radio calling for a ban on all human cloning.
One way to get people to pay attention is to show how the technology is evolving. This can be done, in part, by showing what the experiments are and what advocates for some of these agendas are already saying.
I won't give up. Thanks.
And thanks for not giving up ;)
Cheers!
your support of bans on "all" human cloning means, in practice, that you have opposed laws that would ban designing genetically engineered babies, like the current law in Missouri does. In that department, your work is tantamount to desensitizing and acclimating us to the brave new world of designer babies. I don't see why you can't support laws that prohibit genetic engineering designer babies AND continue to write books opposing "all human cloning".
Do you support a ban on genetic engineering? Or are you going to stand by and watch while people start doing it, content that at least no skin cells are being injected into eggs?
Please support the "egg and sperm civil union compromise", it is silly to oppose it just because it doesn't go far enough. Support it and call for it to go further, or else it seems mighty fishy just to oppose it. Perhaps in your view it goes too far in banning genetic engineered babies?
Another thing, is it illegal in any state to discard left-over IVF embryos? I don't think so. Would this amendment stop scientists from creating and destroying embryos? I don't think so. So if it is the "embryos are human lives" aspect that you feel is tantamount and requires you to withhold support from laws that don't protect embryos human lives, why support this amendment that leaves so much embryo destruction legal?
Sorry to be putting you on the spot Wesley, but it really shouldn't be hard to agree with me, now that I have taken the time to show you A2 could be improved without legalizing genetic engineering in Missouri again.
I meant, in that last comment, "if it is paramount" not "tantamount"...I think
