As Expected, American Media Maintain News Blockade on Artificial Liver

Well, I won my bet with myself, although there was little chance I would lose: As expected, the American media has utterly ignored the story that UK scientists have transformed umbilical cord blood stem cells into "mini livers," not working livers, mind you, but liver tissue the size of a dime that can be used in drug testing and, hopefully, will one day be developed into a therapy for liver disease. Indian media reported it. So did Australian news. There was even a small report in Turkey.

Sadly, the research breakthrough just wasn't up to rigorous US media standards since the scientists didn't use the right kind of stem cells.

But they shouldn't lose hope! They still have time to receive American media acclaim. All they have to do is go back to the lab and do it again--only this time with mouse embryonic stem cells. Then, the New York Times is sure to put their pictures on the front page.

Thanks for getting this out there. I came accross your Daily Standard article through a link in an article about the artificial liver breakthrough on LIfeSite.

I quoted (as well as linked) your Daily Standard article & some of what you said in this article on your blog for my blog.

As I said in my blog, you would think the so-called main stream media would have learned its lesson. This info will get out. As it does, the failure of the MSM to report this will only do more damage to its credibilty & add more nails to its coffin.

& if the MSM does report it, it won't be until well after the election, when it can't do any damage to the MSM's promoting of a culture of death agenda.

Thanks, Al. It is interesting but the MSM helps me win public debates. When the pro cloner says that is where the "best hope" lies, I pull out a stack of peer reviewed studies using adult stem cells in humans and blast away.

This seems like a really significant breakthrough, I can't believe I haven't seen news of it already.

I linked to your Daily Standard article on my club blog, nyyrcrecord.blogspot.com, to get the word out in NYC.

I didn't keep track of the links (although I could find them) but I'm sure Le Monde and Le Figaro mentioned the U.K. success, although am not sure if the writers were careful enough to note the use of umbilical c. blood s. cells; the French pro-life sites certainly (e.g. Genéthique and the R.C. sites) did. Many thanks!

Jen, you rock and roll!

Marc: I did a Google news search to determine the stories that were written. With the exception of a few stories in the UK, this has been drastically underplayed--where it has been covered. Once the peer reviewed paper comes out, maybe there will be more play; but I am not holding my breath. After all, the MSM ignored the Carlos Lima peer reviewed paper.

1 American news show finally reported on the stem cell breakthrough. EWTN News had it on their World Over News Report Fri Nite. You even got a mention by Raymond Arroyo for your reporting on it.

Somehow, I don't think that this is going to light a fire under the MSM, esp since EWTN isn't viewed with much favor by them.

Yes, well this is why outlets like EWTN are a success: People want accurate information and they will turn to places that they believe provides it.

Nice of Raymond to mention me.

Wesley, we're about to see whether your prediction comes true:
