Fetal Farming for Cosmetic Purposes
There is a terrible story (how often I have to write those words!) in the Daily Mail (UK) about women getting beauty treatments from fetal stem cells derived from abortions, with the allegation that poor women in the Ukraine are being paid $200 US to get pregnant and abort at 12 weeks for this purpose. If true, this is pure fetal farming. (The Daily Mail isn't necessarily the most credible source, but it tells us something about the times in which we live that it is easy to believe that it is true.) I was asked to comment about it on the First Things blog site, which I was honored to do, here.

Hi, Carlos. Thanks for writing. I don't get into the War on Terror much, but it seems to me that the greatest threat we face is from the Islamic Terrorists. Other movements are dangerous, true. I am certainly no laissez faire capitalist, but these other issues pale in significance, in my view, to the threat posed by people who would nuke us in a hearbeat if they ever had the chance. I certainly subscribe to Judeo/Christian values, but I didn't write about the Islamo -fascists because they are Muslim. It is their vow to kill us all that has me concerned.
I am not equating the two threats. I believe they are both very real, and in the long term, the threat to our value system and self concept as humans that may be the more worrisome. In the short term, terrorism is more worrisome, by far.
