Mississippi House Bans All Human Cloning

Mississippi appears on the brink of outlawing all human cloning. The vote was overwhelming, with only 4 opposed. Interestingly, the only quotes in this story on the vote are from opponents of the bill, so the reader has no idea why so many legislators supported the legislation. Typical.

Actually you may want to re-read -the quotes are strange but are from supporters.

Mayo says shouldn't get involved, only good part is advisory committee, and then it says he voted for it anyway. And what is "partial embryonic research"??!

And it sounds like a Democat, Sid Bondurant, got it right that the advances are in adult stem cells.
Whoo - hoo!

Thanks. Partial embryonic stem cell research, well, everybody knows that they are, well, I suppose, the term could mean, well, ????????

I've reached the conclusion that party labels mean little or nothing at the local level, particularly in the South. The Missisippi town where I grew up had only Democratic primaries because there weren't enough Republican candidates to bother having one. As far as I know, that's still the case. But the people are mostly pretty conservative - it's a dry county, for instance.

Yes. It is primarily on the national level that the parties have sharper divides on the social issues. In the heartland, they often are less divided.
