How to Solve the Schiavo Question of Rehabilitation
I have been watching the TV interview programs on Schiavo and note that there is a conflict among the medical experts as to whether Terri can be improved with therapy. Some say yes. Others say no. But this doesn't have to be a case of doctor said/doctor said. There is a simple way to find out for sure: Allow Terri to have one year worth of intensive rehabilitation by a team of the parents' choice. After the year, we can see where she is. That would settle that issue.
Still, even if she can't be improved, there is no reason to force her to die by dehydration. She is a fully human and equal person. We shouldn't treat people that way when we can't be sure that she would want to die by dehydration.

Frankly, I am amazed that nobody has posted anything to your site. If you are you I think you are, I have read your stuff for years, and I appreciate your work.
Sadly, at least for now, the Schiavo case shows we have lost the language war. Florida has a reasonable statute to cover this case, but once the trial court said she was in PVS, that is the controlling point. When she last had therapy, what has been done to prove she has PVS, how oily the husband is and his pro-death ambulance chaser are, the questionable legal actions of the judge, it just doesn't matter.
Even a court with Congressional sanction for a de novo petition can't get past the fact that a trial court says she in PVS, and she can be "legally" killed in a most horrible way, with as little dirt on the hands of the Court and medical profession as possible.
It is a horror beyond belief. I really thought the US would only follow the Netherlands after I die, not in the prime of my life.

I predicted that the fed. jud. would not want to step on their state coleagues' toes. This case arises as a constitutional crisis is brewing between the judical and political branches of government. It isn't going to be pretty.
